Dave “Squirrel” Covell

Dave “Squirrel” Covell is a recording engineer and producer based in Nashville, TN.

Squirrel spent over a decade in Los Angeles, starting as a runner at Sound City Studios in Van Nuys and working his way up to house engineer recording bands live to tape. When Sound City sold its Neve console, he landed at Shangri La in Malibu, where months-long sessions would progress down every stage of the creative process, across many different genres and styles.

Those thousands of hours in the room taught him to move fast, be attentive, and treat the technical side as only a small part of the story. A musician first, he has a very good sense for what a session needs from moment to moment, to curate an environment where artists can feel at home.

Ears over gear, move fast, and always be recording.

Now freelancing in Nashville, Squirrel is a trusted ally in the room, making records and new friends.
